Photorejuvenation Nothing makes a first impression like your skin’s appearance. Unfortunately, as a result the quantitative effects of sun exposure, both the visual and structural appearance of the skin can be affected. This combined with genetic or medical illness may leave your skin looking unhealthy and aged well beyond your current age. With thinning of the ozone, smoking and failure to wear sun block along with many other factors, we are seeing these signs of aging at younger and younger ages.
Until recently, those desiring rapid visible results were required to undergo painful treatments with a significant amount of down time. This has all changed with the evolution of photorejuvenation. This treatment involves the use of intense pulsed light (IPL) at low energy levels. This differs slightly but significantly from laser treatments. Emitting many wavelengths of light (different wavelengths of light are used to treat different problems of the skin), IPL is able to treat many sign of sun damage in a single treatment. The Quantum SR can simultaneously treat unwanted vascular lesions such as enlarged blood vessels, flushing, rosacea, diffuse redness or solitary red spots. This is accomplished while also treating pigmented lesions such as age spots, melasma or mottled (speckled) pigmentation. Because there is penetration of the light energy into the deeper tissues of the skin there is also improvement of wrinkles as well as a significant improvement in the skin texture and overall appearance. Essentially all the signs of photo-aging can be treated without discomfort or the slightest interruption in your busy lifestyle. IPL may be used to treat the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and legs. Depending upon the desired outcome 3-6 treatments are usually necessary. This may vary depending upon skin type and the amount of sun damage. Each treatment typically takes 1-1 ½ hours, but this may vary significantly depending upon the area/s treated. The treatment is started with a gentle cleansing to remove any makeup, skin oils, etc. Eye protection is then applied and the treatment is started. During the treatment there may be some slight stinging and warm sensation. Once complete, the treated area is again gently cleansed. We finish with a Mini Vitamin C Firming Facial to soothe the skin and give it radiant glow. As with all our laser treatments sunblock will then be applied. It is strongly recommended that you follow your skin care program and laser follow up instructions to prevent complications and get the most out of your treatments.
Consultations are required to determine if this treatment is appropriate for you. In many circumstances, treatments can be performed the same day (if this has been arranged when scheduling your appointment). If the treatment is desired the same day, you must have avoided sun exposure (significant) and spray tanning for 4 weeks. You should then plan on staying out of the sun for 4 weeks after the treatment. Treatments will be performed approximately every 4 weeks, but this may very depending upon your schedule. A micro-dermabrasion may be recommended 1-2 weeks after your treatment to improve your results. Maintaining healthy looking skin is a daily task. Both a healthy lifestyle and the proper skin care regimen are necessary to maintain your results. Avoid tobacco and alcohol, and stay well hydrated. Antioxidants such as SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic as well as the continued use of exfoliating creams or serums are very important. However, the most important cosmoceutical is your sunblock, especially immediately after the procedure. Always wear a “full” spectrum sunblock with an SPF of 20 or higher to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Your skin care specialist will recommend an individualized skin care program to maximize and maintain your results. We may recommend that you start your program prior to your treatment in order to prep your skin. This will help to attain the desired results and minimize risk of complications.
Once the initial series of treatments have been completed, periodic maintenance treatments may be necessary. The frequency will depend upon proper skincare and avoiding tobacco, sun exposure, etc. Call today to schedule your FREE consultation to determine if photorejuvenation is right for you! |
